ASTON Villa boss Unai Emery believes winning a trophy in England is tougher than anywhere else in the world.

Emery will look to keep alive hopes of claiming his first silverware at Villa when they travel to Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday (19:45 GMT).

He has won multiple trophies in his native Spain and France, but he believes the competition in England makes winning titles more difficult.

“I want to be contenders in this competition,” he said.

“To win a cup is very difficult, and here in England I think it’s more difficult than in other countries.

“I want to do something but every opportunity I have is a challenge.”

Emery has won the Europa League on four occasions – three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal – while at Paris St-Germain he won Ligue 1 and twice lifted both the French Cup and League Cup.

He did not win a trophy in his previous spell in England with Arsenal, but took them to to the final of the Europa League in 2019, where they lost to Chelsea.

“I know that everything I’ve done in different cups in Spain, France or England was an experience for me,” Emery added.

“Here in England, I didn’t achieve when I was at Arsenal and last year here in Aston Villa, but I haven’t had many opportunities. Hopefully, I will have more.”

Villa are fourth in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Liverpool.
