A 40-year-old unemployed man, Akaazua Armstrong, was on Wednesday docked in a Kado Upper Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly inflicting deep cuts on his friend’s face during a fight.

The  police charged Armstrong, who resides at Jabi Upstairs, Abuja, with disturbance of public peace and causing grievous hurt.

The Prosecution Counsel, Helen Ochai, told the court that the complainant, Osas whose surname and address is unknown reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Sept.16.

She said during an argument in Life Camp, Abuja, the defendant used a sharp object and injured  the complainant on the left side of his face.

The offence, she said, contravenes the provisions of sections 113 and 245 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His defence counsel, Charity Nwosu thereby made a bail application for her client in the most liberal term.

The counsel who made her application citing section 36 of the 1999 constitution and section 158 of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act ( ACJA), 2015, promised that the defendant will not jump bail if granted same

The judge, Shehu Ahmadu granted the defendant to bail of N300,000 with a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and adjourned the case until Nov 2, for hearing. (NAN)
