A 28-year-old unemployed man, Adekunle Ayinde, who allegedly stole television sets valued at N1 million, on Friday, appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Ayinde whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, preferred against him by the police.
The Prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and one other at large committed the offences on Feb. 2, at 2.00 a.m., at No. 2/4, Ojora Adeniyi St., Ikotun, Lagos.
He said the defendant entered the premises of Zargarza Hotel and Suites and stole three television sets valued at N1,050,000 million.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ariyo ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
Ariyo adjourned the case until Feb. 26 for mention.
In another development, two men, Collins Olusowe, 25, and Rabiu Suleiman, 27, were also brought before the same court for allegedly stealing armoured cable worth N3.6 million.
The duo are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on stealing and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Aigbokhan, said on Feb. 6, the defendants entered the premises of the same Zargarza hotel and suites, at 3.00 a.m. without any cogent reason.
Aigbokhan said the defendants were roaming about the premises of the hotel with a tricycle marked KSF 484 QN.
He said the defendants damaged an electric transformer and stole an armoured cable worth N3.6 million, belonging to Zargarza Hotel.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 168, 287, 305 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The duo denied the charge.
Ariyo granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
Ariyo also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 1 for mention. (NAN)
