Unemployed man jailed 3 months for buying stolen electrical cables

An Area Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced an unemployed man, Isah Aliyu to three months imprisonment for buying stolen electrical cables.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

The judge gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine or three months imprisonment in default.

She further ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N 200, 000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported at the Rantya police station on March 31 2023, by Ms Christiana Pam.

He said the accused person, purchased the stolen electrical cables valued at N540, 000 for the sum of N21,000 which was stolen from the complainant’s house.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the offence and some of the cables were recovered from his possession.

The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
