Unemployed man jailed for stealing car worth N2.2m

A Shari’a Court sitting in Kano, on Monday, sentenced a 30-year-old unemployed man, Mustapha Mohammed, to one year  imprisonment for stealing a Toyota worth N2.2 million.

The Judge, Malam Nura Yusuf-Ahmad, sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment or to pay a fine of N50,000 for conspiracy.

Yusuf-Ahmad also sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment without option of fine for theft.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Aliyu Abideen informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 2, 2022, at Kwakwachi Quarters, Kano.

He said that on the same date at about 2ba.m, the defendant conspired with one Saminu Idris, who died while receiving treatment after he sustained a leg fracture while fleeing.

He said they stole a Toyota Corolla S vehicle valued N2.2 million belonging to Joshua Juwel.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

Abideen said that the offence contravened section 97 and 183 of Kano State Shari’a Law.(NAN)
