UNFPA lauds Fintiri over policies, programmes toward advancing women, girls’ rights

MS Ulla Mueller, the Resident Representative of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA Nigeria) has lauded Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa over ongoing efforts toward advancing the rights of women and girls.
She made the commendation when she paid a courtesy visit to the governor on Wednesday in Yola.
She said that her mission to Yola, along with her team, is to accelerate the Call to Action to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
According to her, the team include members of the Strategic Task Team of the Call to Action on Protection from Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies.
She added that the team has series of activities aimed at exploring the contextual factors that propell GBV, and to galvanise effective prevention and response actions in programming.
Mueller stated that the Call to Action is a multi-stakeholder initiative introduced globally in 2013.
She added that Nigeria implemented its pilot roadmap from 2018-2021 and the current revitalisation of the Call to Action is gaining momentum to ensure and enhance protection from GBV in emergencies with extension to development settings.

Responding, Fintiri thanked the team for the visit, assured of his administration’s readiness to continue to protect women and girls, as well as intensify efforts toward ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the state.
He wished the team successful deliberations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team consists of the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sune Krogstrup; the Resident Representative of UNFPA Nigeria, Ms Ulla Mueller and the Humanitarian Programme Manager of the Norwegian Embassy, Trygve Aurdal-Vold.
