FEDERAL Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Okitipupa Unit Command in Ondo State, has described vehicles that are not in good condition as constituting security risk on the highways and prone to crashes.
The FRSC Unit Commander, Okitipupa, Mrs Modupe Ojogbenga, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Okitipupa.
She urged motorists to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys.
Ojogbenga also noted that pulling over in dangerous areas on highways and brake failures were security risks, with crashes as the resultant effect.
She advised motorists to always check their vehicle radiators, oil gauge, tyres, brake system, traffic lights, headlamps, wipers, windscreens and other features every morning before driving out.
The unit commander attributed most crashes to errors and ignorance by drivers.
“Apart from crashes that result to loss of lives and property, it is also a security risk for drivers and occupants of vehicles to pull over in dangerous spots.
“It is important to check water level in the radiator, brake systems, tyres, traffic lights, headlamps, wipers, brake lights and other features before setting out.
“I appeal to drivers to always make it mandatory to do ‘morning parade’ (checks) on their vehicles in order to be safe and alive,” she said.
Ojogbenga also enjoined motorists to always ensure compliance with traffic rules and regulations in order not to be on the other side of the law. (NAN)
