Universal Insurance MD wins 2022 Leadership Excellence prize

DR Benedict Ujoatuonu, Managing Director, Universal Insurance Plc, has won the 2022 Insurance Personality Leadership Excellence prize.

The  award was presented by the African Prize for Leadership Excellence Award organised by Africa Leadership Media Limited, a Pan Africa Leadership Magazine.

The award was aimed at recognising  positive contributions of individuals and corporate organisations in Africa,  a statement on Tuesday by the insurance company’s secretary, Mr Chinedu Onyilimba, said.

“Africa in the last decade has experienced significant economic growth that has not only put it in spotlight but has also made it attractive to foreign investors .

“The Africa new growth factor was attributed to the leadership excellence of some selected African individuals and corporate organisations that have demonstrated uncommon initiatives in African economy and field of endeavour.

” Ujoatonu was awarded in recognition of his insurance expertise, sound knowledge and practical leadership excellence in management skills,” the statement said.

In his response, Ujoatonu expressed excitement on being chosen for the esteemed prize and thanked the organisers for honouring him.

The managing director said the success achieved in the company during his tenure contributed to his being recognised.

” Before my assumption, the Universal Insurance brand was struggling in the market but today the brand is everybody’s choice in the insurance market.

“Our financial results shows our strength and our stakeholders, policyholders and staff are happy because we are meeting the aspirations of everyone.

“What we have achieved collectively at Universal Insurance is what has given me the opportunity to attain this, and I am grateful to God,” he said.

Other personalities at the event included Mr Olusegun Obasanjo, a former Nigeria President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice-President of Nigeria and  President Nana Akufo Addo of Ghana.

Others present were Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa and Mr Akinwunmi Adesina, President, Africa Development Bank, among others. (NAN)
