THE students of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, AE-FUNAI, Ebonyi State, are now reaping the gains of peaceful protest as power and water have been restored to their hostel after their agitation against constant inadequate power supply and scarcity of water in their hostel.
The students, who had been complaining bitterly of the poor state of power and water in their hostel since the beginning of the semester, took their protest to the Vice Chancellor’s Building on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
Although the students could not meet with the Vice Chancellor as planned, but their grievances were resolved as power and water were restored to the hostel ahead of the examinations scheduled to start on Monday.
Realnews gathered that the students in the male hostel had on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 embarked on a similar protest over the poor state of facilities in their hostel.
Meanwhile, the Students Union Government-SUG election in the university has been cancelled.
The election was allegedly cancelled on the day of the election due to the agitation of some angry students over the disqualification of their candidate, Eze Chukwuemeka Emmanuel.
The aspirant, Eze, who was vying for the post of the SUG president in the election was disqualified for using a different name – Eze Chukwuemeka Chucksmary while registering for the SUG election as against the name he used for his admission into the university – Eze Chukwuemeka Emmanuel.
However, the aspirant claimed that he had sworn to an affidavit to be known and recognised as “Chucksmary”.
But the angry supporters of the disqualified candidate stormed all the faculties destroying ballot boxes, election materials and scaring away students present to cast their votes, which led to the cancellation of the election.
