ABDULLAHI Ganduje, on Wednesday attacked those who doubted the votes won by President Muhammadu Buhari in Kano during Saturday’s Presidential poll.
Ganduje called them “unserious” and “anti-democratic” people.
Buhari had polled 1,464,768 votes in Kano alone to emerge the winner in the state.
His closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, scored only 391,593 in Kano.
This had led some people to raise concerns that the Kano votes might have been inflated in favour of Buhari.
But, speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Ganduje dismissed those expressing such doubts.
He spoke with journalists soon after he paid Buhari a visit at the State House to congratulate him on his victory.
He stated, “First of all, they are not serious people; they are people who are anti-democracy.
“If you had seen how the elections were conducted, I think everybody would agree that INEC tried very well. Even though there was low turnout of voters because we were expecting to get much more than that, but the elections were fair and free.
“Those who say we couldn’t have got that much are ignorant of the politics of Kano.”
He bragged that the victory of Buhari was a good omen for the All Progressives Congress ahead of the March 9 governorship poll.
But, he admitted that he was unable to deliver the five million votes he initially promised the President, blaming the failed promise on the low turnout of voters.
Ganduje also boasted about his own re-election, saying that he was sure of victory.
He spoke further, “My chances are very high and you can see the beginning of it with the presidential elections.
“We gave Mr President the highest number votes; all the three senators are back, 24 House of Representatives members out of 24 have succeeded. What else are you expecting? That is the foundation.
“Another thing is that Mr President has done a lot of work in Nigeria and in Kano and as a government we have done a lot in Kano State.
“If there was negative reaction we would have seen it from the presidential election. That is why I say we are heading for a huge success in Kano both in the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.” – Punch
