The US exit from the World Health Organisation (WHO) is undermining the ability of the global health agency to help developing countries, Grigory Ustinov of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on Monday.
Ustinov, who was responsible for the facilitation of international cooperation in the ministry, said this at the Soobschestvo (Community) forum in Moscow.
“The fact of the matter is that the organisation’s financial activity is also being undermined and this organisation is losing the capacity to assist developing countries that are hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“The developing countries which have unstable health care systems are now being undermined even more,” Ustinov said.
In early July, U.S. President Donald Trump took U>S out of the global health agency.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Trump emerged as a vociferous critic of the organisation, accusing it of close ties with China, as well as a failure to implement necessary reforms.
The decision was severely criticized in bother the U.S. and other climes as detrimental to international cooperation, especially at the time of a global health crisis. (Sputnik/NAN)
