MOHAMMED Adamu, former inspector general of police, least expected what happened today in Abuja, while he was on a mission to Imo State. President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved him of his post after he extended his tenure for three months. He has spent two months and three days in office before his appointment was terminated and replaced with Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP.
His termination came same day he was still in Imo State giving orders to the police to use weapon to crush  members of the Indigenous People People of Biafra, IPOB, to the last man over the attack on Imo Police Headquarters and Correctional Service Facilities in the State.
Adamu had accused IPOB of perpetrating the attack. But Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesperson has vehemently denied its members carried out the attack, stressing that the mission of the Eastern Security Network is to chase out killer herdsmen in the bush and not to burn police stations and Correctional Services facilities.

Maigari Dingyadi, minister of Police Affairs, who made the announcement on Tuesday, April 6, told State House correspondents that the appointment Baba takes immediate effect.

Dingyadi disclosed the new appointment to State House Correspondents on Tuesday at the Presidential villa, Abuja.

Realnews reports that Buhari on February 4, extended the tenure of Adamu as the inspector general of Police, IGP, for three months after he retired from office.

His sudden departure must be a relief to critics who are warming up to criticise his order to the police to deal ruthlessly with IPOB without saying a word over the murder of more than 15 people in Ebonyi State last week.

The IGP gave the order when he visited the burnt Imo Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Service on Tuesday.

Adamu said the police officers must use their weapons against the IPOB members and crush them to the last man.

Born September 17, 1961, Adamu, who hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State, is the 20th IGP. He was appointed by President Mohammed Buhari on 15 January 2019, replacing Ibrahim Kpotun (rtd IGP)  of Niger State.

The new acting inspector general of police, who was born in March 1, 1963 is from Geidam, Yobe State and has served in various capacities such as  deputy inspector general of police, DIG Force CID.

He was an area commander in Ilorin,  second-in-command in Ebonyi; an assistant commissioner, CID, in Kaduna and Divisional Police Officer in various places like Yola, Gombe, Kaduna, and Jos.
