Usman Alkali Baba replaces Adamu as acting IGP

Maigari Dingyadi, minister of Police Affairs, who made the announcement on Tuesday, April 6, told State House correspondents that the appointment Baba takes immediate effect.
Dingyadi disclosed the new appointment to State House Correspondents on Tuesday at the Presidential villa, Abuja.
Realnews reports that Buhari on February 4, extended the tenure of Adamu as the inspector general of Police, IGP, for three months after he retired from office.
His sudden departure must be a relief to critics who are warming up to criticise his order to the police to deal ruthlessly with IPOB without saying a word over the murder of more than 15 people in Ebonyi State last week.
The IGP gave the order when he visited the burnt Imo Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Service on Tuesday.
Adamu said the police officers must use their weapons against the IPOB members and crush them to the last man.
Born September 17, 1961, Adamu, who hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State, is the 20th IGP. He was appointed by President Mohammed Buhari on 15 January 2019, replacing Ibrahim Kpotun (rtd IGP) of Niger State.
The new acting inspector general of police, who was born in March 1, 1963 is from Geidam, Yobe State and has served in various capacities such as deputy inspector general of police, DIG Force CID.
He also served as Force secretary at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and in various commands including Kaduna as the deputy commissioner, Administration; FCT deputy commissioner of police Investigation and as a directing officer in the staff college.
He was an area commander in Ilorin, second-in-command in Ebonyi; an assistant commissioner, CID, in Kaduna and Divisional Police Officer in various places like Yola, Gombe, Kaduna, and Jos.
Baba holds a Masters degree in Public Administration, MPA, Degree from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, 1997 and a BA (ED) Political Science from Bayero University, Kano StateH he has attended many professional courses/workshop.
He is a member of Course 22/2014 2014, National Defence College, NDC; member, the International Association of Police and also a fellow of the International War College.
