Varsity VC offers scholarship to JAMB best student in 2023 UTME

The Vice Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University (GOU), Enugu, Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, has offered full scholarship to Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) overall best student in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE).
The Student was also offered full scholarship to study in Godfrey Okoye College of Medicine.
Anieke made the announcement during the presentation of a car to the first male student “Vice Chancellor For One Day” of GUO on Friday in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Anambra-born Lotanna Azuokeke, set a new record in the just-concluded JAMB examination by scoring 337 marks.
Azuokeke is said to be a 15-year-old boy who hails from Ọba in Idemmili South Local Government Area and a student of Bishop Otubelu Juniorate, Trans Ekulu, Enugu.
Details of his score were: English: 64; Mathematics: 99; Physics: 86 and Chemistry: 88, totalling 337.
NAN also reports that Vitalis Iloanuwusi, a 400L student of the university, emerged the overall best student with Cumulative Grade Point of 5.O in two semesters for which was made GUO VC for one day and he was first male student to win the position.
Speaking on the score, Anieke said, “The VC is offering this extraordinary student a full scholarship to study in our college of medicine, and this is in line with my passion for education, and desire to empower young people and make them extraordinary”.
Anieke added that the youths needed a system that can crush them, stressing that they can do a lot and compete with their colleagues globally if supported.
“Watch our under 17 and 21, they can do marvelously well. Nigerian youths are not lazy, I believe in what they can do and GOU has given them face to show their strength,” he said.
For VC for one day, the vice chancellor said the university adopted it to motivate students, adding that when you challenged students, they would do well for themselves.
He stressed that those who had emerged student for one day were currently doing extremely well in life, an indication that the the programme was good.
“We believe that when they taste success, they will crave for more in life and I believe this boy Vitalis will not go for something below excellence because he has taken seat as VC.
“He has addressed senate of the university, University’s secondary school and its group of institutions,” Anieke said.
Presenting the car gift, the donor, Mr Alphonsus Nwafor, charged students to have specific objective on why they are in school, explaining that Iloanuwusi had a vision which led him in breaking the record.
He explained further that when he discovered that only female were emerging the VC for one day in the school, he threw a challenge to boys which saw Iloanuwusi becoming the first male student to win the position.
He added that the success gift would be extended to female students who emerged the position as a way of balancing it, adding the car gift cost him N3.9 million.
Commending the donor and the VC, Iloanuwusi who was in tears of joy, said he was able to achieve the feat through hardwork and patience, adding that the donor had inspired him with the car.
“I am proud of GOU and I never believe that the promise of car gift will become reality,” he said. (NAN)
