VC harps on reinvigorating technical colleges to boost technology

Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran,Vice-Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota,has advised the Federal Government to reinvigorate the technical colleges across the country in order to achieve sustainable technological development.

Ojediran gave the advice at the 11th Convocation ceremony news conference of the institution, in Ota, Ogun.

He noted that most of the technical colleges in the country had been fazed off due to poor funding on the part of government, adding that they also were moribund because they lacked modern equipment to operate effectively

“The Federal government needs to invest massively in technical colleges across the country by funding them well, if it intends to achieve sustainable technology advancement.

“Government also need to encourage those with technical certificates by paying them good salary, to boost their morale in teaching the students.”Ojediran said.

He appealed to the federal government to assist private institutions in the area of funding because to boost their contribution the educational development of the country.

“The federal government must come to the aid of the private universities as maintaining infrastructure, faculties and equipment are all capital intensive.” he said.

ediran said that the institution had established Skills Development and Resource Centre to empower students with skills that would enable them positively channel their strength, innovation and imaginations for the development of the country.

The vice-chancellor also said that all programmes presented by the institution for accreditation had been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other relevant professional bodies.

Ojediran further said that 16 staff of the institution bagged Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in 2018, while 11 staff obtained their PhD in 2019.(NAN)
