AS from July 2, all private and commercial vehicles in Anambra State will be subjected to mandatory tests before being issued road worthiness certificates.

This decision has been reached by the Anambra State Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, during interactive session with all Transport Stakeholders in the state.

The session was held at the VIO Computerised Vehicle Testing Centre, by Roban Stores, Awka.

In an address at the session, Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Uchenna Okafor said that the computerised Vehicle Testing Centre had been equipped with ultramodern facilities capable of detecting faults in vehicles.

He noted that the facilities would add great value to the state when utilised by the public to ensure safety on the roads.

Christopher Okeke, head, VIO, said that the Mandatory Vehicle Test would help to reduce accidents on the roads because faulty vehicle would be marked “off-road’’ for necessary repairs.

He urged motorists to go to the nearest Motor Licencing Office from July 2 to have their vehicle papers verified and to ascertain their genuineness.

He, however, stressed that a verified note would be given to them to enable them to move freely on the roads without being disturbed at VIO check points.

Nnamdi Okafor, president, Urban Drivers Welfare Association, suggested that the Vehicle Testing facilities should to be built in other parts of the state.
