The Nigeria Volleyball Premier League (NVBL) will commence on Nov. 3 and not the earlier announced date of Nov. 1, according to the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
Alhaji Adamu Maikano, the Secretary General of the LOC in a notice to clubs explained that the event will now hold at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Abuja, instead of Kaduna.
“The new date of the League is from Nov. 3 to Nov. 10, the venue was changed from Kaduna to Abuja to ensure the safety of lives and property of the Volleyball players.” Maikano added.
Kaduna has been under curfew for over a week now following civil unrest in the city.
He said, “The League would have been held before now, but the Federation had to move it due to the country hosting the U-21 Men’s Africa Volleyball Nations Cup and the Zonal Eliminations of the 19th National Sports Festival.
“Nigeria Volleyball is under Confederation of African Volleyball and we had to shift our programme”.
He further said, “The new date will be communicated to the participating teams today (Tuesday) in order for them to prepare ahead of the new date.
“We didn’t think it would be appropriate for the clubs to still play in Kaduna under a tensed atmosphere”, the LOC official noted. (NAN)
