Governor Idris Ichala Wada of Kogi State has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate to contest governorship election of November 21 in the state
Governor Idris Ichala Wada of Kogi State has won the mandate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to contest the governorship poll slated for November 21. Wada defeated Isah Jibrin Echocho, his main challenger in the PDP at the governorship primary held on Monday, September 14.
Contrary to speculations in some quarters, Wada won the primary as Echocho failed to live up to his billings. According to the results read out by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Wada scored 709 votes to win the polls. Echocho polled 139 votes while Moses Amoto Banjo got one vote. There were 10 invalid votes recorded at the primary.
Ugwuanyi who described the primary as free, fair and credible, urged all the contestants to work together in the interest of the party to get Wada elected for a second term in office.
Wada won in 20 out of the 21 local government areas in the state, losing only in Yagba West. Yagba West is the Local Government of origin of Sunday Karimi, member of the House of Representatives and Echocho’s agent.
In his acceptance speech, Wada thanked the delegates for their firm belief in his transformation agenda, urging them to work even harder to ensure the party is victorious in the November 21 governorship election.
“Today’s victory is dedicated to all Kogi people who have been supporting our modest contribution to the development of the state. I congratulate my brothers who contested with me. Together, we shall give the PPD a resounding victory on November 21,″ he said.
By his emergence as the PDP candidate, Wada is now poised to slug it out Abubakar Audu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the November 21, governorship poll in the state.
