Water-logged pitch: Bayern’s Cup game in Saarbrücken under threat
Sports
BAYERN Munich’s German Cup game at third division Saarbrücken may not go ahead as planned on Wednesday because of a water-logged pitch after heavy rain.
The Saarbrücken club said an inspection by the city and the regional football association took place on Monday along with draining measures, but that a final decision would not be made until after another inspection on Tuesday.
Saarbrücken’s league match against Dynamo Dresden on Sunday was abandoned at half-time because of the condition of the pitch. Rain continued overnight, and more is forecast for Tuesday.
Saarbrücken said the sold out second-round match could not be moved to other stadiums in the area because those in question are also being used for mid-week Cup games. (dpa/NAN)
