Welder, 38, docked over alleged N320, 000 fraud

A 38 year-old welder, Akinyemi Ilesanmi on Friday appeared in a Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, over alleged N320,000 fraud.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and advance fee fraud.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant on Oct. 8, 2023, around 10.00 a m at No. 18, Ireyemi Street, Okitipupa in Okitipupa magisterial district committed felony.

Omoyeigha said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N320, 000 from Maxwell Iluyemi, under false pretence of leasing a palm fruit plantation to him without doing so.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 419, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Ajele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties, who must reside within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He adjourned the case until May 31, for further hearing. (NAN)
