We’re changing narratives without compromising national security – Interior

THE Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says innovations introduced by the ministry in the last one year has yielded positive results without compromising national security.
Tunji-Ojo made this known in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Mr Ozoya Imohimi, on Monday in Abuja.
He spoke while receiving a delegation of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) led by its President, Chief Davidson Alaribe.
The minister, however, said that there was still room for improvement especially in the area of passport acquisition.
He said that in no distant time the contactless passport solution would come on board and Nigerians would be able to renew their passports without necessarily going to the passport office.
He expressed the readiness of the ministry to partner with ICAN to optimise its work force and service delivery across the ministry and its agencies.
Earlier, Alaribe said that the purpose of the visit was to inform and invite the minister to the 54th Annual Accountants Conference.
The ICAN president also commended Tunji-Ojo for modernising the Nigeria passport offices, making it seamless and easy for people to renew and get their passports in record time.
He further commended the commitments of the minister in reforming the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as public sector safety measures.
This, he added, had so far significantly enhanced border control, national security and service efficiency.
Alaribe also acknowledged the minister’s leadership style in digitisation, especially in e-passport services and visa reforms which had in recent time streamlined business operations and strengthen Nigeria’s international relationship.(NAN)
