THE Diocese of Nnewi Anglican Communion says the church is using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics Hub and its agricultural farms to tame crimes and criminality in the South-East.
The Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Ndubisi Obi, stated this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nnewi to mark his five years anniversary as Anglican Bishop.
According to him, the church is partnering with EDULINK in collaboration with the World Bank to train 1,000 youths in robotics and artificial intelligence.
“We have established agricultural farms in Okija, Ozubulu, Anaku, Igbariam and we are moving into Akpugoeze and Ufuma before the end of this year.
“We have harvested large quantities of cucumber, water melon, pineapple, green pepper as well as cassava and yam in Okija.
“In Ozubulu, we have 40 large fish ponds, a piggery section, a poultry, a snail section and we harvested different types of vegetables as we use irrigation system to provide constant water to the farms.
“We have established a full rice mill in Anaku and have large numbers of palm trees in both Okija and Ozubulu as well as garri processing machines in both Okija and Ozubulu where we process our cassava into garri,” he said.
On the effect of security challenges on its production outputs, the Bishop explained that the church set up all the initiatives to fight various crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery and drug related activities among youths.
“We are trying to pull them out of the bush, we’re trying to give them meaningful life and make them drop arms to learn various skills.
“We are trying to make them come out from the bush instead of kidnapping people.
“These people are our main target, we want to make them have means of livelihood and embrace something very good,” he added.
Obi further explained that the church had also established rehabilitation centers in Nnewi and Ozubulu, where over 135 persons suffering from the effect of hard drugs were being treated.
“When people are hooked on drugs, we take them to our rehabilitation center, get them well, then fix them up to learn some skills and they are good to go,” he said. (NAN)
