AMIDST the uncertainties and hardship in the country fueled by the removal of the fuel subsidy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to re-position Nigeria’s economy, appealing to Nigerians to exercise patience.

Addressing the nation on Monday, July 31, in a live broadcast that lasted for 19 minutes, Tinubu also appealed to Nigerians to understand the reasons for the hard policy measures he took to tackle the serious economic challenges facing the nation.

Stating that he has consistently maintained the position that the fuel subsidy had to go, the president said: ‘’This once beneficial measure had outlived its usefulness. The subsidy cost us trillions of Naira yearly. Such a vast sum of money would have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing, and even national security. Instead, it was being funneled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals.
