UPCOMING Artiste, Nwoko Chinedu, with the stage name, Yprince, says Nigerian pop music, has gained global recognition and acceptance because of the “unique, irresistible lyrics, beat, rhythms and tempo of the songs”.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, YPrince added that the digitization of music distribution platforms had also assisted the music’s global acceptance
YPrince identified streaming services including Spotify, Audiomack, Apple Music and You Tube as critical avenue which had helped to showcase Nigerian music talents globally
He said Afro Pop, which is popularly known as “Naija music” has created a new culture of entertainment across the globe.
“Afropop has taken over. We are now recognised in the international music market and our style of music is very much appreciated generally worldwide
“That is why you see the likes of Burnaboy and Wizkid winning the Grammy Awards, Davido being nominated three times also for the Grammy Award.
“We also see Rema Surpassing one billion streams on Spotify making him the first African artist to attain such milestone in the Afro music world,” he said
YPrince underscored the need for the Big names in the music industry to do more in helping upcoming artistes to grow .
He said they should endeavour to pave the way for upcoming artistes to be able to sell in the international market regardless of their kind of music.
According to him, upcoming artistes in Nigeria faced a lot of challenges, mostly, in the area of finance.
“Because music is expensive, it comes with a lot of lifestyle and promotions .
“Not being financially stable, you are likely to experience setbacks, especially in paying for your studio sessions , and promoting your contents,
“You will also face the challenges of keeping up with the trends and staying relevant in the music industry which is full of competition,” he said.
YPrince said his two unforgettable experiences were, when his song, “4U” won the “Deelz Award” for best Afro music and when he was auditioned in the famous TV reality show, Big Brother Naija.
“They were great experiences that have shaped me in knowing that I can achieve more, with hard work,” he said.(NAN)
