FOR the umpteenth time, leading Civil Rights Advocacy group: HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has stated that the only way to assure Nigerians that the current administration is committed to reforming the battered economy and wage war on institutional corruption, is to immediately arrest and prosecute immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari by the current administration for economic and security sabotage.

HURIWA said the former president apart from destroying Nigeria’s economy through cocktails of corruption and poor governance, also committed some of the worst human rights violations almost equivalent to the pre-World war 2 German’s Adolp Hitler. The Rights group said it is disappointing that Nigerians are not on the streets to demand the immediate arrest of Muhammadu Buhari.

In a media statement,  HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) backed the comments of the Plateau State governor Mr. Caleb Mutfwang that a fundamental cause of today’s  economic hardship being faced by Nigerians should squarely be blamed  on the last administration led by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking during the swearing-in of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Jos, Mutfwang said Buhari left the country’s economy in terrible shape for his successor, President Bola Tinubu.

Mutfwang said, “We are at a very difficult juncture in the history of this country and I’m an advocate that after the election you forget politics and face governance.

“And even though the Federal Government is being led by a party other than my own, I owe you the duty to tell Nigerians the truth that this government inherited a worse situation than 1999.

“This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30tn and shared.

“This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground had been sold in advance.

“So, when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket science. We sold our future under the last administration.

“No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. We are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.

The prominent civil rights advocacy group in its media position endorsed by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko stated that although HURIWA wouldn’t excuse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government from the economic missteps and bad economic policies that escalated the hardships being faced by the citizens,  HURIWA however said the immediate past President should be arrested and prosecuted so Nigeria can retrieve the billions of dollars allegedly stolen by appointees under the last administration.

“Whereas we believe that President Tinubu created the high costs of living through the unwise hiking of pump price of fuel and the floating of the Naira which fundamentally devalued the national legal tender of Nigeria, however, we support the Plateau State governor for pointing out some of the bad policies and actions adopted by immediate past President.  But unlike the Plateau State governor who is silent on what to do with past President Muhammadu Buhari,  we in HURIWA thinks the former president Buhari should be behind bars now to answer questions on how he destroyed the national economy and created security nightmares that resulted in the killings of over 50,000 citizens by Fulani terrorists and other armed non state actors from 2015-2023.”
