MICHAEL Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to the Federal Government to confirm Capt. Chris Najomo as substantive Director-General of NCAA.
Achimugu who made the appeal at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja said Najomo’s confirmation would consolidate the ongoing innovations to advance safety, efficiency, and customer experience in the sector.
According to him, the NCAA under Najomo has developed a regulatory culture that is transparent to drive aviation growth.
“From digitalised operations to green energy solutions, innovations have been at the heart of our strategic vision.
The development of human capital within the sector cannot be overlooked.
“NCAA planned to invest in training programs and partnerships that empower a new generation of African aviation professionals, ensuring that the sector remains competitive on the global stage, “ he said.
Achimugu said issue of licensing for new aircraft presently takes shorter time compared to previous administrations when bureaucracy always frustrated airline operators.
According to him the processes that used to take about two and half years before, now take just 24 hours to two weeks to complete.
“`What the NCAA Acting Director General, Capt. Chris Najoma has done is to remove that bureaucracy red tape without compromising safety and standard, so that business environment can be much better.
“As a matter of fact, this actually translates to better service for the passengers.
“Anything that needs to be done to support domestic airline especially, the NCAA and the Federal Government trough the minister have been done, “ he said.
He appealed to the Federal Government to confirm Najomo as a substantive NCAA Director General for him to fully use his wealth of knowledge to promote ease of doing things without compromise standard in the aviation industry.
It would be recalled that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) recently called for the confirmation of Najomo as the substantive Director-General of NCAA.
The AON Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo had made the call in Abuja at the World United Consumer Organization Maiden International Air Transport Conference with the theme: “Air Transport in Africa: Prospects and Challenges.
Okonkwo, who is the Chairman, United Nigeria Airlines, said the call for Najomo confirmation was an endorsement of the quality regulation at the NCAA.
He described the quality of the regulation at the NCAA as the best in the world.
Also Speaking at the event, AON VIce Chairman, Mr. Allen Onyema had said that Capt. Najomo has zero tolerance for anything unsafe in the industry.
Onyema, who is also the Chairman Air Peace, said Najomo promotion of the ease of doing business in the sector was unprecedented.(NAN)
