Winners and losers are coming out of the April 11, governorship election in 29 states of the federation. Some of the highlights are as follows

WINNERS and losers are already emerging from the governorship and States House of Assembly election that took place on Saturday, April 11. As usual winners are smiling to high heavens while losers are complaining to high waters and hell because of some irregularities that attended the election. Some have even called for the cancellation of the elections in states like Akwa Ibom and Rivers amongst others

The results so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, returning officer in the States showed that in Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi won the governorship race. Ugwuanyi’s leads in 16 out of the 17 local government areas in the state. Okey Ezea, his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, lost in his local government (Igboeze South) to Ugwuanyi.

In Katsina State, Aminu Masari, former speaker of the House of Representatives won the governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He won after trying several times.

In Lagos state, Akinwumi Ambode of the All progressives Congress, APC, beat Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party to emerge the governor-elect of  Lagos State.

In Taraba State, Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan failed to make history as the first elected female governor in Nigeria on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. She lost to Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, incumbent governor Oyo State broke the jinx in the state by become the first to have a second term in office. He defeated his opponents by winning 20 of the 33 local government areas in the state. Accord Party’s Senator Rasheed Ladoja trailed behind while Labour party cam third.

In Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel of Peoples Democratic Party beat Umana Umana of All Progressives Congress to clich the governorship trophy. But the losers in Akwa Ibom are complaining and calling for the cancellation of the election.

In Kaduna State, Nasir El Rufai of All Progressives Congress, defeated Muktar Yero, incumbent governor of Peoples Democratic Party came second. The incumbent governor called El-ufai to congratulate him even before the results were announced.

In Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun also snatched victory,  winning 11 out of 20 local governments.

In Ondo, Peoples Democratic Party won 24 out of 26 constituencies in the States Assembly Elections.

In Rivers State, Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party defeated his opponent Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressive Congress. The APC in the state is calling for the cancellation of the election.

In Kogi, PDP has an upper hand clinching more constituencies than the All Progressive Congress.

In Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the House of Representatives, coasted home with victory.

In Gombe, Governor Ibrahim Dankwanmbo retained his seat on the platform of the People Democratic Party

Dave Umahi of the People Democratic Party won in Ebonyi State.

All Progressives Grand Alliance Swept all the seats in the State House of Assembly Election. There is no governorship election in the state.

In Kwara, Abdulfatah Ahmed, incumbent governor, won on the platform of All Progressive Congress

In Adamawa State, Nuhu Ribadu of PDP lost to the APC candidate

Mohammed Abubakar of APC won the governorship race in Bauchi State

Aminu Bello Masari, former speaker of the House of Representatives won in Katsina State governorship race
