Woman, 22, docked for allegedly stealing company’s goods worth N958, 000

PROMISE Ukaegbu, 22, was on Monday arraigned before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court Lagos, for allegedly stealing company’s goods worth over N958,000.
Ukaegbu who resides at Ogba area of Lagos, is charged with stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence sometime between April 2022 and March 21, 2023.
Bassey alleged that Ukaegbu a merchandised staff of CWay Food and Beverages, stole some goods of the company worth over N958, 000.
“She sold them out without the consent of the company’s distributor and sales representative at Tipper Garage l, Ketu, Alapere.
“When interrogated over the stolen goods entrusted in her care, she couldn’t give satisfactory account of them.
“She later confessed to the Police that she actually stole the goods and sold them to do the burial of her late father,” the prosecutor told the court.
He said the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal laws of Lagos State, 2023.
The section provides a seven-year jail term for any property that comes into possession of the offender by virtue of his employment.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 31, for mention. (NAN)
