Woman, 41, bolts with N500,000, fails to supply truck load of oranges

A 41-year-old woman, Adejoke Adewale, who allegedly obtained N500,000 on the pretext of supplying a truck load of oranges, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

She was, however, released on bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum after she pleaded not guilty to the charge.

She is being tried for obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

The accused, a trader, who resides at 1, Sotuwa St., Under Bus Stop in Ogun, allegedly collected N500, 000 from the complainant,
Mrs Lola Williams with a promise to supply her oranges worth the amount.

“After collecting the money, the accused started giving the complainant excuses and when she was told to pay back the
money, she disappeared.

“The case was reported at the police station and following a tip-off, the accused was later found,” Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu
told the court.

He said the offences were committed on April 3 at Oke-Odo Market, Ile Epo Bus Stop, Abule egba, a Lagos suburb.

The offences contravened Sections 280 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, fixed trial of the case for June 14.
