Woman docked for allegedly coveting friend’s jewellery worth N2.4m

A 42-year-old woman, Kadijat Yahaya was on Tuesday docked in a Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja for allegedly coveting her friend’s gold jewellery worth N2.4m.

The defendant, who resides  in Gwarimpa, Abuja is charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against her.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Hajiya Zainab Salisu of Asokoro, Abuja reported the matter at the Asokoro Police Station on Jan.1, around 2pm.

“The complainant alleged that on Dec. 1, the defendant, who happened to be her friend borrowed her gold jewellery weighing 51.6gms worth N2.4m to wear for her wedding.

“However, with intent to cheat the complainant, after the defendant’s wedding, she  refused to  return the jewellry.

“In the course of police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.” Osho told the court.

The judge, Malam  Ishaq Hassan, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2.5m, with two sureties in like sum.

Hassan adjourned the case until April 24, for hearing.(NAN)
