A 53-year-old woman, Wuraola Williams, who allegedly assaulted a Lagos State Waste Management (LAWMA) staff, Mrs Oluwabunmi Saidi, on Friday appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Williams, also known as “Iron lady,” is facing a four-count charge of assault, breach of peace, unlawful assembly and conduct causing fear in the neighbourhood.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Doney Raphel, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February, at about 1.p.m., at Ilubirin in Lagos Island.

He alleged that the defendant, one of the operators licensed by LAWMA to recruit sweepers, had assaulted its staff, Saidi, by slapping her twice and boasting about her being untouchable.

Raphel said the defendant also conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, causing fear to the neighbourhood and had unlawfully assembled herself alongside her cohorts.

He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 41 (1), 168, 172 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.G. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum. She adjourned the case until July 29, for mention. (NAN)
