Cleric, Rev. Fr. Emmauel Olewuezi of St Anthony Catholic Church, Alagbado, Lagos State, has described women as catalysts of social development.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Olewuezi said that women’s role in the family and the society at large could not be over-emphasized.
According to him, women have a very strong influence on their husbands and children, hence the saying; ‘train a woman, you train a nation.’
” The church, society recognise mothers and their role in the family and the society.
”Their role cannot be over-emphasized and that is why they are enjoined to sit up and meet up to their responsibilities, ensuring that they create a healthy environment at home that would be translated to the society.
”Though we cannot talk about the family without the father, so fathers should also play their role by honouring and respecting their wives,” he said.
The priest said that women had emotional strength and the ability to endure, persevere and are patient, which were the qualities needed to nurture a healthy family and society.
He, however, urged men to honour and love their wife as it instigate respect from the women.
Also, speaking with NAN, the president of Catholic Women Organisation, St Anthony Catholic Church, Mrs Magret Okwuogoli said that when a woman is empowered, a nation was empowered.
Okwuogoli said that it was necessary for women to be empowered to make women economically relevant.
According to her, it is necessary to bridge the gap of financial inequality faced by women in the immediate environment.
She said that the training and empowering of women within the church would be continuous. (NAN)
