WOMEN-led Network of Civil Society Organisations, on Saturday, launched the distribution of food and other items to 1,000 Female-headed households, displaced by recent Boko Haram attacks on Geidam and Kanamma, in Yobe state.

Hajiya Husna Ibrahim, the Chairperson of the organisations, disclosed this while addressing newsmen after the  distribution in Damaturu.

“We are going to give out food and non-food items to less privileged women, especially women-headed households, who have been displaced by insurgency in Geidam and Kanamma communities”, she said.

Ibrahim said the exercise would continue across six other local governments of Nguru, Karasuwa, Bade, Potiskum, Bursari and Yusufari, to attain the target number of 1,000 beneficiaries.

She noted that the distribution followed an appeal by her organisation on May 3, for assistance to those vulnerable women’s groups.

Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the Yobe State government and other partners, for their support, saying that the door for more support was still open to everyone, including organisations and philanthropists.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that people from Geidam and Kanamma in Yobe state, recently fled their communities following armed attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
