DELTA Queens Football Club of Asaba on Friday thrashed Paul Ebebe FC of Abuja 6-0 to reach the Round of 16 of the 2023 Women’s Federation Cup competition.

In the Round of 32 match played at the Rangers International FC training pitch, Mercy Omokwo put Delta Queens in front in the seventh minute.

She went on to double the lead six minutes later, before Chinaza Agoh scored a hat-trick with goals in the 36th, 37th and 47th minutes to put the match to bed.

Ifeoma Ifitezue made it 6-0 in the 78th minute.

Delta Queens’ coach, Tosan Blankson, in an interview after the game said his team did what was expected of them because they are superior to their opponents in all aspects.

“I even expected more goals, because the scoring chances were coming. But the players were busy losing them, and the scoreline would have showed up to 14 or 15 goals.

“When you created chances and did not score them, you are not yet there until you start converting chances. So, we are going back to work on the lapses.

“This is one of the games we are trying to experiment one or two things in before we go for the NWFL Super Six because our target is to win all the trophies we are involved in,” he said.

Blankson, who referred to their opponent as beginners, however noted that the team has a bright future and would soon get to the NWFL Premiership level.

Paul Ebebe FC’s coach, Efiok Jumbo, said his team were just six months old.

“We are a team in progress and could not have done any thing in the game.

“We gave the Delta Queens a fight. We had our chances but could not convert any and that would have made a difference to the scoreline.

“Paul E FC is still a team in progress, we are at the experimental stage and this is an experience as the players will learn from it.

” We are going to start working on team to come stronger next season.

“We do not have to be afraid of any team and if we have the chance of facing Delta Queens again, we will take it with both hands,” Jumbo said.(NAN)
