World Diabetes Day: Expert urges Nigerians on need for constant check-up

A medical practitioner, Dr Julius Afolabi, has advisrd Nigerians to always go for medical check-ups to know the sugar level in their blood to prevent diabetics.
The medical practitioner gave the advice during an interview with News men on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti to commemorate the 2022 World Diabetes Day.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Diabetes Day is celebrated every Nov. 14.
He said that anyone with frequent urination, abdominal pains and injuries in some parts of the body as well as erectile dysfunction should contact medical practitioners for proper diagnosis.
He said that it was very important for people to know that once diagnosed of diabetics, you have to change your lifestyle.
“For instance, if you have been drinking alcohol, then you have to stop it, then you might need to change your diet and if you are the type that loves sweet things, you have to stop them also.
“Do away with sugary things and eat more of protein and less carbohydrates in your daily diets,” the doctor said.
Afolabi emphasised that diabetes could lead to severe damage of the heart, blood vessels, kidney, nerves and teeth, hence, the need to eat more proteins.
He said one could also engage in exercises and avoid alcohol. (NAN)
