Yellow Card committed to bridging gender divide – COO
Africa
A pan-African Cryptocurrency Exchange and Financial Technology Firm, Yellow Card on Friday said it was committed to bridging the gender divide across Africa.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Yellow Card, Mr Jason Marshall, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Marshall said that in spite of Nigeria’s strong entrepreneurial spirit, only 15 per cent of tech startup co-founders in Nigeria are women.
He said that a study published by LongHash in 2018 showed that among 100 blockchain startups surveyed, female employees accounted for only 14.5 per cent of the workforce.
According to him, while the digital ecosystem is dynamic and exciting, gender inclusivity remains a growth inhibitor.
“Yellow Card, through this partnership with Web3Ladies, has gone beyond mere words and reiterations of the problem to contribute to the empowerment of more women.
“An investment we believe will yield overall positive results for the African economy in the near future,’’ Marshall said.
He said that Yellow Card, through a $3,000 grant, had partnered with Web3Ladies to empower about 500 women with work tools and mentorship on Web 3 technology.
The Associate Programme Manager, Web3Ladies, Nkechi Enebeli, while commenting on the Yellow Card grant, noted that the organisation’s commitment to corporate social responsibility was remarkable.
Enebeli said that their partnership reaffirmed the belief that empowering women in tech was not just a matter of equality but an investment in the future.
NAN reports that Web3.0 refers to the next evolution of the World Wide Web, the user interface that provides access to documents, applications and multimedia on the internet. (NAN)
