According to the communique, a meeting was held on Sunday by the Yoruba Parapo Community in Gure, Baruten local government area of the state.
The group called on political leaders in Kwara to acknowledge the contributions of their members during electioneering activities by supporting the social economic development of Baruten.
“We wish to remind the leadership of the State ruling APC to fulfill their part on the agreement reached before the 2023 general election with appointments.
“Yoruba people in Baruten, being the second largest ethnic group in the area, their Obas should be enumerated, since they are also playing a vital role in sustaining peace and tranquility.
“Members of Yoruba Parapo believed that we are being subjected to nothing when it comes to enjoying dividend of democracy, the state leadership should urgently intervene and give us a sense of belonging.
“Many of our members having stayed in Baruten for decades and some were even born there, but denied issuance of State of Origin, which is disheartening and against the laws of the land.
“The people of Baruten are big time farmers, as well as members of Yoruba Parapo, but when it comes to sharing of farming implements our people are not considered.
“Members unanimously agreed to call on the state government to urgently intervene and stop the tribal and religious discrimination amongst our host community in Baruten in the interest of togetherness,” he explained.
Baba stressed that for the sake of fairness, justice, equity and brotherliness the present headship in the state ruling APC should extend its magnanimity in changing the narrative.
He further said that the only political office being held by their member was two decades ago and it was a Personal Assistant to a Council Chairman.
The group however commended the present administration, under the leadership of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his role in developing rural areas and giving youths a sense of belonging in the state.
They also appreciated the leadership style of the Speaker of Kwara House of Assembly, Hon. Salihu Danladi, for his creed of dedication, youthfulness, patriotism and doggedness in championing the course of Baruten plight.
“We applaud the traditional institutions, particular the first class Emirs, for being the custodians of the Baruten norms and values of the people,” Baba said. (NAN)
