Yuletide: Arewa women canvass further reduction in petrol price
Women
AN NGO, Arewa Women for Empowerment (AWE), has advocated for further reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, as Nigerians prepare to celebrate Christmas.
Chairperson of the organisation, Ms Aishat Ibrahim-Ali, commended President Bola Tinubu and Dangote Group for the recent reduction of petrol price to N899 per litre.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dangote Group, which had, on Nov. 24, reduced the petrol price to N970 per litre, also announced a new price of N899.50 per litre in the spirit of yuletide.
Ibrahim-Ali said that the removal of fuel subsidy had made life ,very difficult’ for the common man in the country.
She said that things got so bad that a litre of petrol was almost sold for N2,000 in an economy that largely runs on PMS.
“We are happy that Africa’s richest man, Dr Aliko Dangote, has deemed it fit to bring the price down to N899.50 per litre.
“While we congratulate him for this feat, we know that the price can still be reduced, given the current economic realities.
“Nigerian women are proud of this great patriot who has shown uncommon belief in the Nigerian project.
“It is not for nothing that, as a private citizen, he bagged the second highest national honour in the land, the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON).
“The coming on board of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has, in no small way, changed the narrative of the possibility of our collective dreams and aspirations.
“We look forward to more of his interventions because, even at N899.50 per litre, things still remain difficult for millions of Nigerian households,” she said.
While felicitating Nigerians at the yuletide, Ibrahim-Ali urged them to show love to one another, as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
She called on Nigerians to pay attention to the virtue of love, empathy and tolerance, which was exhibited by Jesus Christ throughout His earthly sojourn.
“We hope that Nigerians, irrespective of ethnicity and faith, will show love toward one another, live peacefully and show patriotism, even in the face of adversity.
“It is an occasion for sober reflection but more than anything else, we must demonstrate oneness, forgiveness and empathy, as Jesus taught mankind while He was on earth in bodily form.
“As we celebrate, we call on well-meaning Nigerians to lift the less-privileged members of the society and give them a reason to believe in the beauty of existence.
“We also call on all and sundry to pray for our leaders in their quest to make Nigeria great again,” she said. (NAN)
