A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the TikFamily Foundation has donated food items to over 400 indigent persons in Bariga, Lagos State.

The Founder, TikFamily Foundation, Mrs Naomi Yamah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the gesture was to commemorate Christmas as well as to alleviate the plight of some underprivileged and needy in the society.

NAN reports that bags of rice, vegetable oil, rolls of tomato paste, condiments, and other provisions were distributed to the people, who were majorly housewives and widows.

Yamah said that the project tagged “TikFamily December Outreach” was an annual project aimed at empowering the less-privileged in many ways, especially in these trying times.

She said that the mission of the Outreach was to put smiles on the faces of the poor especially in this Yuletide and at other times possible.

“This year, the outreach, which is in its third year, is calling on well-meaning Nigerians to support the project through their donations.

“The donations made to the less-privileged has so far been funded by members of the Foundation who have the passion for helping the poor.

“I feel so troubled seeing some people fortunate to celebrate the Christmas, while there are millions out there, who might not be able to boast of a meal on that day.

“The December Outreach is to alleviate the pains of those in this category by providing them with food items,’’ she said.

Yamah recalled that the TikFamily Foundation was inspired by the social media platform, TikTok, noting that it brought to the fore the advantages of the social media, despite all its argued disadvantages.

She stressed that the social media could be an avenue towards positivity and impactful engagement.

“The donation of food items to the less-privileged is just one among the many empowerment programmes the Foundation has embarked on since inception.

“Apart from the annual food distribution, many businesses have been empowered with funds ranging from N200,000 to N500,000,” she said.

Also speaking on the project, an officer of the Foundation, Mr Israel David, said that the definite goal of TikFamily was to touch lives, not only in Nigeria but worldwide with the support of the media.

Another officer, Mrs Sylvia Okereke, said that individuals with genuine passion to help should do so, without portraying the Foundation as online beggars.

A housewife, Mrs Tinuola Gbadamosi, expressed joy and excitement over the food items given to her.

Gbadamosi said that the food items would be a big relief to her family, because her children were yet to eat their breakfast as at the time the items were presented to her at about 6.00 p.m. (NAN)
