THE Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Lagos Branch, on Saturday donated food items  worth N400,000 to Bethesda Home for the Blind, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items included bags of rice, gallons of oil, cartons of spaghetti  and noodles, beverages and toiletries.

Speaking on the donation, Dr Funmi Ige, President, Lagos MWAN, said  the association deemed it fit to reach out to people this season, by showing love to the vulnerable in the society.

“One of the cardinal areas of focus of this association’s 2023 -2025 biannual is to reach out to the physically challenged.

“We thought that this is the first way to start off the major assignment ahead of us, having been sworn-in into office on Nov. 23, 2023.

“Basically, food is essentially a basic necessity of life and taking care of children is a huge task in a home, not to talk of those with visual disabilities,” Ige said.

Responding, Mrs Chioma Ohakwe, Founder, Bethesda Home for the Blind, expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to MWAN.

Ohakwe said MWAN had shown the spirit of motherhood in them as they decided to bless the less privileged.

Mr Hammed Kareem, one of the teachers at the home, thanked the association for reaching out to them.

Kareem,  a University Graduate who passed through the Bethesda Home for the Blind, Lagos. said it was a thing of joy as he spoke on behalf of his colleagues to appreciate the wonderful gesture. (NAN)
