THE Zamfara government has declared intention to partner with the organised private sector, especially the  Shippers’ Council of Nigeria (SCN), for the promotion of agricultural and economic activities.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Ahmad Maradun, who represented the governor, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, stated this in Gusau on Wednesday at a one-day seminar organised for stakeholders.

The governor said the state was blessed with large number of farmers, fertile soil and various mining activities due to its endowed mineral resources.

He said one of the major policies of the state government was to complement the Federal government policy of reviving the nation economy with agriculture.

The governor urged farmers and the business community in the state to cooperate and participate in all the programmes organised by the council.

Earlier, the Coordinator, North-West Coordinating Office, SCN, Hajiya Karimatu Othman decried inadequate knowledge of the export market by Nigerian exporters, describing the development as a source of concern.

She said that SCN had been organising seminars and workshops for operators to provide them with the requisite knowledge on export marketing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the Seminar is “Standardisation and Packaging of Agricultural Commodities/Solid Minerals for export”, with participants drawn from Sokoto Kebbi and Zamfara.
