A book for all seasons
Books
By Sheddy Ozonne
“YOU do not judge a book by its cover,” I’ve been told severally. I agree because colorful covers and flowery titles have misled me in the past. These days, I would pay only after reading the blurb at the least, and flipping through some pages.
Of course, there are exceptions. In years past, I simply walked into a bookshop, gathered books by James Hadley Chase and paid for them. The titles didn’t really matter, and at home I would just start reading from the one topmost of the pack. Each of them was guaranteed to thrill.
That’s the power of the author’s reputation.
ONUOHA UKEH, TONY ONYIMA, CHUDDY ODUENYI are nowhere near Chase but they are reputable in their own rights. Their new book, *The Making of Modern Nigeria: From Pre-Colonial Era Till Date* immediately arouses interest. It’s such an audacious title, and it appears a groundbreaking work.
September 21 is a week away; it’s a date to keep with the three who are among our very best in this journalism business.
