THE Adamawa Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mrs Grace Mamza, has tasked Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) stakeholders on due process for the respect of human rights in the state and county at large.
Mamza made the call at the capacity building workshop on the Adamawa ACJL organised by the Law Hub Development and Advocacy Centre with support from MacArthur Foundation in Yola on Thursday.
Mamza said that the workshop was timely, hence urging the participants to pay attention.
“The criminal justice system has brought about the ACJL to reform and help in making sure that those who are being arrested are according to due process.
“And those who are given the power to sanctioned and finish done through due process,” she said.
She called on the participants to listen and step down the knowledge acquired to those who were not present at the workshop.
In his remarks, Mr Osita Chukwuma, Executive Director, Law Hub Development and Advocacy Centre, said the objective of the workshop was to enhance knowledge of the law to have network and synergy among stakeholders.
Chukwuma who was represented by Mr Joshua Dada, the team lead said the event was to also enable stakeholders speak for themselves on the issue of implementation of ACJL.
“Our goal is popularising and disseminating ACJL of states and continuously updating the laws to reflect amendments.
“At the end of the day, we expect that stakeholders will be more familiar with the provisions of ACJL and their responsibilities in implementing the law,” he said.
Mr Francis Ogbe, Adamawa Coordinator of Legal Aid Council, commended the centre for the workshop and assured of stepping down the knowledge to other stakeholders.
He recommended that the ACJ monitoring committee should be supported to be fully functional and effectively carry out its mandatory functions and duties.
Ogbe said the judiciary should also be provided with proper funding to enable it live up to its expectations and trainings for judicial staff particularly, the Lower bench judges (NAN)
