Ahmad Rufai Mahmoud, diplomat, banker and administrator, 72, March 6. Born in Koki, Kano State, he was educated at Katsina Practicing Primary School, 1953-1955; Kano Dandago Primary School, 1955-1956; Kano-City Senior Primary School, 1957-1959; Government Secondary School, Kano, 1960-1966, and Abdullahi Bayero College, now Bayero University, Kano, 1966-1970. He was appointed assistant secretary, Kano State Ministry of Trade, 1970; internal affairs officer, ministry of external affairs, 1970-1980; third secretary, Embassy of Nigeria, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1971-1972; second secretary and head of Chancery, Embassy of Nigeria, Rabat, Morocco, 1973-1974; senior manager, United Bank for Africa, UBA, 1984 and assistant area manager, UBA, Kaduna, 1985. Mahmoud is a member of many professional associations including the Institute of Bankers, London.
