NICHOLAS Okoh, the primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has appealed to Christians, who have yet to acquire their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVC, to do so without further delays.
Okoh said this in a homily at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, where he consecrated four Bishops.
He noted that Christians should not continue to sit on the fence concerning politics, but rather they should strive to acquire the PVC so that they could exercise their franchise.
The prelate observed that they should not only acquire their PVCs, but also register and belong to political parties in order to participate in the 2019 General Election, saying that time had gone when people would make false claims that `politics is dirty game.’
“Unclaimed voter’s cards still lying at INEC offices belong to people. We should ensure, `come rain or sunshine’, that they register and collect their voter’s cards. Let’s get involved and participate in party politics,” Okoh said.
The Bishop called on leaders to pay attention to their `spiritual health’, just like the people they lead, particularly in the face of economic crisis facing the country.
Okoh expressed dismay over the killings and attacks on Christians and Churches in different parts of the country, particularly in Taraba, Benue and Kaduna states by herdsmen.
Owen Nwokolo, bishop on the Niger, called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to put a stop to such attacks in order to enable the country to successfully hold the 2019 general elections.
“You should not pretend that you are not witnessing the cries of the masses. There are killings, maiming and people being displaced,’’ Nwokolo said.
He, however, urged leaders to brace up to the challenges militating against the administration of the country.
