A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a painter, Mohammed Jubrin, to 13 months imprisonment for stealing two cell phones worth N870,000.
The police charged Jubrin with theft.
The Area Court judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman however, gave the convict an option of N40,000 fine.
The convict had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Olanipekun Babajide told the court that on Feb. 5 the complainant, Alexander Permenos of Gbazango West off Arab road, Kubwa Abuja reported the matter at the Dawaki police station.
Babajide said the convict stole the complainant’s iPhone worth N800,000 and Samsung cell phone worth N70,000.
He said that during police investigation the convicts made a confessional statement admitting to the crime.
Babajide said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
