ASWAMA boss vows to launch operation clear drainages

AMECHI Akora, newly appointed managing director, Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, has appealed to members of the public to desist from dumping wastes in drainage channels.
Akora, while speaking to members of the media at Awka said that the agency had embarked on clearing drainages from channels.
“We have started clearing drainages. Everybody should refrain from dumping refuse in drainage channels and ensure that those around homes are free.
“We should always bear in mind that Anambra is erosion-prone and therefore, it is necessary that we take care of our environment,’’ he added.
He noted that maintaining clean environment would be collective responsibility, stressing that everybody had a role to play in the exercise.
Akora, then, said that the agency would create a forum that facilitate interact directly with the general public for enhanced performance.
“We will soon create close communication channels through which we shall maintain direct interaction with the public.
“I want a situation, where the public through the channel, will call our attention, where our services are needed and there will be immediate response,’’ Akora said.
He enjoined the public to shun indiscriminate dumping of refuse in order to achieve a sustainable clean environment.
