UCHENNA Nwankwo, the author of The Centrist Manifesto, on February 15, 2022 has called for the establishment of police formations at various tiers of government to contain the banditry plaguing the country.

Speaking at the public presentation and launching of his new book titled ‘The Centrist Manifesto’ at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Nwankwo likened the need for state police to having chairmen to head different organizations, noting that the governors need state police to maintain orders in their states.

“In the world over, ordinary chairmen of meetings at every level are provided with provosts to help them manage the meetings. These provosts act something like the police in the process of making sure that there is order in the meeting

“Beyond that point, at the state level or at the local government level, the governors and the people who run the local government levels deserve to have police forces that they can use to keep order and execute some of their intentions in terms of security at its zones, but it is not happening in Nigeria,” he said.

While speaking in the event, Kingsley Achukwu, who represented Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina, the chairman of the occasion, condemned the lackadaisical attitude of some Nigerians, especially towards academic, socio-political issues noting that Nigerians do not take things very seriously until things begin to get out of hand. He also lamented that Nigerians do not have good reading attitudes. He therefore recommended the book to anyone who wishes to take the nation to a better level.

In his review of the book, Uzor Maxim Uzoatu, who was represented by Casmir Igbokwe, calls for the creation of new and more proactive parties.

“After the enunciation of theory, there is the ultimate drive for praxis. To put the ideas of Uchenna Nwankwo in The Centrist Manifesto into effective practice, one is here urging interested Nigerians to form a new party, which should act as the political vehicle to anchor and see to the entrenchment of the centrist ideology in Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, the book, which is geared towards addressing the hydra-headed socio-economic and political problems militating against mankind was recommended to every politically minded individual, who desires an egalitarian and peaceful society.
