THE African NGOs Media and Roost Foundation have honoured the wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aishat Mohammed with the most impactful First Lady Award in the country.

It also honoured the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe with African Culture Ambassador of the Decade.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Dame Julie Okah-Donli, said this on Thursday night at the African NGOs and International Donor Organisations Festival in Abuja.

She said that the Minister of Humanitarian, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, had been honoured with the most Active Minister Award.

According to her, the festival is a platform initiated to celebrate the ingenuity of African NGOs/Foundations and international Donor Organizations who have contributed immensely to human capital growth and development in Africa.

“ANGO Festival offers a platform for all NGOs, international donor organisations and other relevant stakeholders to recount success stories, dialogue on new ways to improve lives, promote humanitarian services and match Non-Governmental Organisations with potential donors.

“The ANGO festival, scheduled to hold annually, provides the platform for us not only to celebrate impactful and successful NGOs, but also to celebrate International donor organisations who have done so much in terms of developing, funding and implementing projects.

It is also for those supporting and collaborating government’s efforts.

They are “most often than not, international Donor Organisations under celebrated, compared to the value they offer”.

“ANGO is here to bridge this gap,” she said, adding that the importance of synergy in developing and implementing sustainable and impactful programmes could not be emphasised.

“NGOs can collaborate and develop joint proposals, apply for grants, pull resources together and implement meaningful, impactful and sustainable projects, rather than having a multiplication of less impactful and redundant individual projects,” she said.

The wife of Bauchi Governor, Aishat Mohammed, who thanked the organisers of the event, expressed belief that she was honoured for her achievements through her Al- Muhibbah Foundation.

She said that the foundation complemented the government’s efforts in enrolling the out of school male and female children.

According to her, the foundation has recorded successes in providing health care support to less privileged as well as building fences of some cemeteries in Abuja.

Also, Runsewe said that it was good to celebrate the best while alive than after their demise.

“Let me first and foremost commend the organisers that the time has come  that we will be celebrating our best in our country.

“Before  now you hear we only celebrated people after they have gone. I’m today alive and I’m so happy and delighted that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk, is also a recipient.

“That is to tell you that our eyes are open to those that are working and they need to be celebrated.

“For me, I commend the organiser and I look forward to seeing more Nigerians for this beautiful day like this,” NCAC chief said. (NAN)
