ON the sidelines of the meeting of Ministers of ICTs being held in Cotonou, ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructures, Energy and Digitalisation Sediko Douka held a working session with WAPP management

Discussions with Commissioner Douka focused on the economic, technical and security impacts that the withdrawal of AES countries could have on the regional projects implemented by the WAPP, notably the Trans-Saharan Dorsal, which brings together Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad and Mauritania; the interconnection line project between Ghana, Burkina Faso and Mali; and the Solar Park project in Niger, Burkina Faso and The Gambia.

Also on the agenda are the Northern Dorsal project, which brings together Nigeria, Benin, Niger and Burkina Faso; and the Regional Electricity Market, for which the pilot tests have been finalised and which is due to begin shortly.

The meeting also focused on monitoring the administrative procedure for making available the financial support granted by the ECOWAS Commission to the WAPP.

Lastly, Commissioner Douka conveyed the congratulations of Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, to the WAPP management for the many physical projects implemented in the Member States, the impact of which is helping to raise ECOWAS’s profile among the public.
