Simeon Afolabi, senior pastor of Firstlove Assembly, Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, 53, February 22. Born at Ipee in Oyun local government area of Kwara State, Afolabi attended Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara Polytechnic), Ilorin. He gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 1980 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1985 and a Masters degree in the same discipline in 1987. Afolabi became a staff of Living Faith World Outreach Centre, where he served in various capacities for 10 years before founding Firstlove Assembly in 1998.
Oluwatobi Oyefeso, lecturer, technocrat and administrator, 56, February 20. Born in Isara Remo in Remo North local government area of Ogun State, and educated at Ogun State College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, 1980-1983; Polytechnic of North London, London, 1986-1989; Brunnel University of West London, Uxbridge, UK, 1989-1990; University of Greenwich, London, 1999-2000; University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland, 2000-2003 for a PhD in Finance. At various times between 1990 and 1999, Oyefeso worked as senior management accountant, financial operations manager, economic analyst, and since 2003, as a senior lecturer in Finance at the Bristol Business School of the University of West England in Bristol and the Thames Valley University in London before his appointment in January 2008 as the managing director of Nigerian Capital Market Institute, a subsidiary of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been a member of the National Technical Working Group Vision 20-2020 and Ministerial Task Force on Sovereign Wealth Fund. Presently, Oyefeso is the group chief executive officer of the Covetable Group Limited with subsidiaries including Morewits Financial Market Institute, Morewits Consulting, Covetable Properties, Morewits Techprints and Prophealth Farms.
Abel Kprogidi Ubeku, administrator, lawyer and former managing director of Guinness Nigeria PLC, 79, February 24. Born in Isoko, Delta State, he was educated at the Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan; London School of Economics and Political Science, England; Leicester College of Technology, England, and North-Western University, Evanston, Illinois, USA. Ubeku was a member of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and also member of Council, Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, MAN.
Sulaiman Ajibola Abiola, mechanical engineer and administrator, 63, February 18. Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State State, he was educated at the Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro, 1964-1969, and University of Lagos, 1969-1973. He was appointed petroleum and reservoir engineer and later production engineer, operations department, Elf Nigeria Limited, 1974-1977; assistant manager, contract and administrator, ITT Nigeria Limited, 1978-1979; executive chairman, Haisha Investment Company, Apapa; chairman, Deen Travels Agency; chairman, Clearentin Nigeria, and chairman, Apex Motor. Abiola also worked with the Concord Press of Nigeria.
